Arsenic and Old Lace

Auditions for Arsenic and Old Lace will take place on Monday, December 8 & Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at 6 PM at the Metcalfe County Public Library Community Room, located across the street from the theater entrance. Parking is available at the Barn Lot Theater parking lot, street side, and the lot behind the library.

Audition Format: Participants will perform a cold reading from the script.

Alternative Arrangements: If you're unable to attend the scheduled audition, please contact info@barnlottheater.org or call the theater at (270) 432-2276 to make alternative arrangements.

Rehearsals and Performances: Anticipate at least two rehearsals per week, with frequency increasing as the production date approaches. Depending on the role, actors may not be required to attend all rehearsals. Please bring any known schedule conflicts to auditions.

Participation Requirements: Any volunteer over the age of 18 requires a background check.

Character Descriptions: Ages listed are for audition purposes only; the age of the actor cast in the role may differ from what’s described.

Mortimer Brewster, mid 30s. A drama critic who has just married the woman he loves, Elaine.

Abby Brewster, 60s to 70s. A sweet, charming, but homicidal old woman.

Martha Brewster, 60s to 70s. Abby's sister, equally sweet and homicidal.

Elaine Harper, 20s to 30s. Mortimer's new bride and the reverend's daughter.

Jonathan Brewster, 30s to 40s. A homicidal maniac, one of the two brothers, who is a criminal on the run.

Dr. Herman Einstein, 30s to 50s. A German plastic surgeon, a criminal, and Jonathan’s accomplice.

Teddy Brewster, 40s to 60s. Mortimer's brother, who thinks he is Teddy Roosevelt.

Reverend Dr. Harper, 50s to 60s. Elaine's father, who is concerned about Mortimer.

Officer O’Hara, 20s to 40s. A police officer and an aspiring playwright.

Officer Brophy, 20s to 40s. A beat cop who is friendly with the Brewster sisters.

Officer Klein, 20s to 40s. Another beat cop who is friendly with the Brewster sisters.

Mr. Witherspoon, 40s to 60s. The head of the Happy Dale Sanitarium.

Mr. Gibbs, 40s to 60s. A man seeking a room from the Brewster sisters.

Lieutenant Rooney, 40s to 60s. The head of the local police precinct.
