Steel Magnolias

Finishes the 2007 Season

Barn Lot Theater's much anticipated dinner theater production of Steel Magnolias opens November 8th and runs 9th, 10th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 29th and 30th and December 1st and 2nd. Tickets for dinner and show are $20.00 for regular, $18.00 for students/active military/seniors citizens (55 and older) and $8.00 for pre-school. Tickets for show only are $10.00, $8.00 and $3.00.

The close-knit women of Truvy's Beauty Salon, the unofficial hub of Chinquapin La., have lots of time to gossip. Their husbands--absent, depressed, or dead--have made sure of that. Consequently, visitors to the salon get more than a wash and cut.

The wise-cracking Truvy, with the help of her glamour technician Annelle, dispenses shampoo with liberal doses of free advice and gossip to the town's curmudgeon, Ouiser; an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, and the local town social worker, M'Lynn, whose daughter Shelby, is on the verge of marriage.

Alternately hilarious and touching, the play focuses on the comradarie of these six Southern women who talk, gab, gossip, chitchat, needle and harangue each other through the best of times--and cry, caress, comfort and repair one another through the worst times. They're soul mates in a rarefied way that assumes a cult of femininity. Pushing laughter and pain together, Steel Magnolias pulls tears from even the most cynical eyes.

Once again, Family Secrets Catering will be providing the meal. The menu will be: Holiday Baked Ham, Herb-Roasted Red Skinned Potatoes, Country-Style Cream Corn, Seasoned Peas, Cranberry-Pecan Salad, Yeast Rolls, Italian Cream Cake, Jam Cake and Sweet Tea. Dinner begins at 6:00 p.m. with curtain at 7:00 p.m. To make reservations, call 270-432-BARN.

There is no minimum amount, the theater's staff takes care of all engraving as well as sending notification to the family members of your generosity and thoughtfulness. Memorials can be sent by mail or delivered to the office. Please include the name and address of the relatives to be notified if using the mail.

ONE NIGHT ONLY!

For one night only, Monday October 22nd, Barn Lot will present GTA's Road Theater USA's production of Start Up, an original black comedy. This ambitious theater troupe sells German culture to American audiences on a cross-country tour--and they have chosen Barn Lot as one of their stops! Their goal is to allow audiences in off-the-radar towns to get a once-in-a-lifetime chance to experience a play by Roland Schimmelpfennig, Germany's foremost contemporary playwright.

In Start Up, an assorted crew of merry pranksters come up with what they believe is their million-euro idea: to sell German culture to Americans--which is of course, the exact same thing that GTA is doing as it travels across the country presenting this fast-paced farce.

Tickets will be on sale at the door for $5.00 and the show begins at 7:00 p.m. Reservations are not necessary, but for more information, please call 270-432-BARN.

Jesus Christ Superstar Auditions

Auditions for the first play of 2008, the highly-acclaimed musical Jesus Christ Superstar, will be held on Monday, October 8th and Tuesday, October 9th at 6:00 p.m. Auditionees will be asked to sing a song of their choosing that demonstrates vocal range. This can be done a cappella or with a CD or cassette supplied by the auditioner. Also, all auditioners will be shown some of the steps by our choreographer which they will be asked to learn and perform in small groups. Jesus Christ Superstar is a rock opera with all singing and dancing--no dialogue--so the ability to do both is important.

If anyone is interested, a copy of the libretto and soundtrack can be borrowed from the theater for a security deposit of $10.00, which will be refunded when the items are returned. To get a copy, please call 270-432-BARN and make arrangements.

2008 Membership Drive

It's that time of year again--time for Barn Lot's Annual Membership Drive. It's the one time a year that we ask you--our patrons--to help us out with the finances it takes to run Barn Lot. This theater--your theater--is a non-profit organization and we rely on your generosity to keep us up and going. The letters will be going out very soon so be looking for yours in the mail and help us continue to bring top-quality community theater to South Central Kentucky!

We Love Kids at Barn Lot...

and that is evident from out increase in programming geared toward children. We have a Family Theater production each summer as well as workshops for our younger patrons. The response to these has been tremendous and we want to continue cultivating all our children's programming--and adding even more. However, not surprisingly, this costs money--and to help defer these costs, Barn Lot is going to increase the price of a preschool ticket from $3.00 to $5.00. Dinner theater productions will go from $8.00 to $10.00. We hope you understand why this increase is necessary and will continue to support all our children's programming.

Just a Friendly Reminder

Payment for reservations is due when you make the reservation, which you can hold with a credit card or debit card, or if you're mailing a check, we need to receive that within one business week. Also, this is most important, ALL SEATS RESERVED MUST BE PAID FOR--whether used or not. THANKS for following our policies!
