Jesus Christ Superstar Opening in March

Barn Lot Theater's exciting 2008 season-opening production of Jesus Christ Superstar hits the stage March 13th and runs the 14th, 15th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, 27th, 28th, 29th and 30th. Tickets are $10.00 for regular, $8.00 for students/active military/senior citizens (55 and older) and $5.00 for preschool. All show times are 7:00 p.m.

This stunning rock-opera tells the story of the last seven days of Jesus Christ's life, including His resurrection. With music written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, Jesus Christ Superstarexploded onto the stage nearly 40 years ago, leaving the musical world forever changed. JCS is not only a portrayal of Jesus (Levi Scott) and his last days, but an exploration of his star status.

The story is heard mainly from the viewpoint of Judas (Kenneth Taylor), a disciple struggling with Jesus' growing popularity. Declaring that "your followers are blind", Judas tries to convince Jesus to become the warrior king the Jews had so long prayed for and join forces with Caiaphas (Rick Barnes), the High Priest.

While the disciples follow Jesus-listening to his parables and teachings and trying to learn his plans for the future-the Romans are becoming increasingly distraught with this "Jesusmania". With all of the turmoil, dishonesty, and betrayal caused by the Romans and Judas, Jesus is often comforted by reformed prostitute and his friend Mary Magdalene (Kacy Hope).

This story for the ages is set in modern-day subcultures and led by song and dance. Spearheaded by such well-known songs as "I Don't Know How to Love Him", "Heaven on Their Minds," and "Jesus Christ Superstar", coupled with phenomenal dances, this play will not be one to miss!

Reservations for Jesus Christ Superstar can be made by calling Barn Lot at 270-432-2276.

Disclaimer: This plays does include all events of the last seven days of the life of Jesus Christ, including his flogging and crucifixtion. While there violent scenes are presented artistically and not graphically, parental discretion is advised.

Acting Workshop Annoucement

Due to the departure of former Director of Chilren's Programming, Vivien Worthen-Powell, and the recent hiring of our new director, Kacy Hope, the scheduled acting workshops have been postponed to an unknown date and time.

"In order for me to offer exceptional and rewarding workshops I would like to take a little time to prepare and to get comfortable in my new positions", remarks Kacy.

The workshops will hopefully be re-scheduled by the next Banter issue and will be announced within. Kacy wants to continue the tradition of excellence set by Vivien through outreach in Edmonton and surrounding communities. The workshops will focus mainly on strengthening communications skills and preformance abilities. In addition, Kacy would like to express her thanks to the Barn Lot patrons for their patience and support.

New Faces of Barn Lot

Barn Lot would like to extend a huge welcome to our newest Board Member: Freeda Reece. Freeda is a familiar face in the Edmonton community. Not only has she worked at ESB for many years, but she has also served as a volunteer for many area associations, including the Edmonton-Metcalfe County Chamber of Commerce.

Freeda has also been involved with the theater as a volunteer during shows and assisting with our Opening Night Receptions, which are sponsored by ESB. With her knowledge of Barn Lot and our patrons and her extensive work within the community, Barn Lot feels that Freeda will be an exemplary Board Member.

In addition to our new Board Member, the theater also welcomes two new employees to the staff. Susan Shirley, a former Board Member and long-time volunteer, is now working in the administrative office assisting with Barn Lot's website, archives, and publishing. Susan has been seen in many productions on our stage, including Little Shop of Horrors, Grease, Funny Girl and most recently as Sister Amnesia in the popular Nunsense series.

Kacy Hope is also a new face among the theater staff as the Administrative Assistant and Director of Children's Programming. Kacy, also a former Board Member and long-time volunteer, steps into the position in hopes of fulfilling Vivien's shoes and bringing new ideas to barn Lot. Kacy has served as Barn Lot's Treasurer and Special Events Coordinator and has been seen in many productions such as, Dracula, West Side Story, Those Crazy Ladies in the House on the Corner, and as Sister Hubert from the Nunsense series.

Both new employees are excited and energetic about their positions within the theater and Barn Lot welcomes them aboard!

Goodbye Vivien

On December 7th, Vivien Worthen-Powell, Director of Children's Programming and Administrative Assistant, as well as the star of many of our productions, left Barn Lot to pursue other interests in California. We are all saddened by the loss of such an outstanding employee, but the news is bittersweet because the Barn Lot family wishes the best for Vivien's future.

Viven served Barn Lot for three years in many areas. Not only was she an excellent Administrative Assistant and helped the theater reach new levels, but she also started many new projects within the theater.

As Director of Children's Programming, Vivien began a new tradition for Barn Lot in the form of the Family Theater Productions. Every year, Barn Lot presents a play or musical production that centers around family involvement and school-aged children. Also new for the theater is Imagination Ink. Vivien began this traveling troupe to enable the theater to branch out to more schools in more areas. With self written plays such as Our Old Kentucky Home, and Tales With Tails, Vivien led the troupe to several Kentucky elementary and middle schools, as well as numerous libraries. Among other things, Vivien also held acting workshops for children between the ages of 5 and 18 to help strengthen the talents in our area children.

Although Vivien has moved on, she left an impring on the heart of Barn Lot and our patrons. Her smiling face and warm heart will be missed deeply. The staff and board members wish Vivien the best of luck and also want to say "Thank You" for her dedication, hard work, and all the fond memories.
